4WDRIVE INTO THE OUTBACK AND THE SIMPSON DESERT (Fully Accommodated)

18 DAY 17 NIGHT ITINERARY - $4,320 per person

Covering approximately 3500 kms into remote areas of three Australian States, this tour is a unique holiday presenting a very different view of the Outback:

The vastness and the peace, remote lakes and waterways. Great bush Tucker, Isolated ruins and outposts steeped in history.

We traverse three Rivers – Darling River, Coopers Creek and the Diamantina.

We encounter three Deserts, - Strezlecki, Sturts Stony and the Simpson

Our tour includes Historical Highlights of South Australia and Outback New South Wales and Queensland.

Including Gundabooka National Park Menindee Lakes, the Historic Port of Bourke, Tibooburra, Innamincka, the World Heritage Coongie Lakes, the Simpson Desert, and the Birdsville Track, Ghan Railway and the Flinders Ranges.

ALL ACCOMMODATION AND MOST MEALS ARE INCLUDED



DAY 1: We meet you at Adelaide Airport, or the train at Gawler Central. Or you may choose to drive into our country property and leave your car at Stockport during the journey.

Accommodation is provided on a twin share basis at Stockport, in our large converted and refurbished Stables.

Join us for lunch, afternoon tea and pre dinner drinks and Dinner at the Stables. An opportunity to meet your fellow travellers.

Afternoon trip briefing. Familiarization with equipment and routines, issue with trip maps etc. A walk around the country area, or just relax and settle in.

DAY 2: After a hearty cooked breakfast (your choice) Depart Stockport 8.00am to Burra, Sturt Vale, crossing the NSW border at Loch Lilly. Kinchega National Park. Menindee Lakes for Overnight  Kinchenga Shearers Quarters. Time to see the huge shearing shed and ancillary yards

Day 3: White Cliffs, the first commercial opal field in NSW opened in 1890. After tour of the field we Overnight in the fabulous Underground Motel. This is an experience not to be missed!

Day 4: Cross Country through the Paroo-Darling NP to Tilpa on the Darling. Following the Darling to Kallara Station, home of Justin and Julie McLure, breeders of the Black Dorper Organically Grown sheep... Overnight accommodation on the banks of the Darling in Kallara’s fabulous Coolabah Lodge.

Day 5: On to Louth and then Mt Gunbabooka National Park. We will arrive in the afternoon at Bourke, once the busiest port in Australia, until 1885 when the railway was established and the River trade slowly died. Now a major cotton growing area and the centre of vast pastoral country. Overnight Riverside Motel

Day 6: After breakfast we leave Bourke heading north to Hungerford on the Dog Fence between NSW and Qld, visiting the Royal Mail Hotel and then West to Lake Wyara in Carawinya NP Two nights Station Stay at Kilcowra Station, including dinner under the stars prepared by the station owners.

Day 7: A full day exploring the station escorted by Greg or Tony Sherwin or both including a visit to Lake Wyara National Park.

Day 8: On to Thargomindah and to the historic Noccundra Hotel. Overnight in the Hotel

Day 9: Past the Jackson oil fields the abandoned Bransby Run South through the Dog Fence to Tibooburra, Tour of the town and surrounds. Overnight in the Hotel.

Day 10 & 11: West through Sturt National Park to Cameron Corner up to Innamincka .Two nights in accommodation while we have a trip to Coongie Lakes and explore this Historic area, relax surrounded by serenity, beauty and birds.

Day 12: Out to the Dig Tree of Bourke & Wills fame, on to the Cordillo Downs Road. On to Birdsville over the Diamantina River. Overnight in Birdsville, a meal at the famous Hotel.

Day 13: A day trip into the Simpson Desert, Big Red and maybe Eyre Creek if practical and back to Birdsville for another night.

Day 14: South down the Birdsville Track, across Coopers Creek heading for Marree. Accommodation In the town.

Day 15: To Lyndhurst, south to a station in the northern Flinders Ranges via narrow tracks through gullies and along rocky ridges Overnight in Shearers Quarters

Day 16 & 17: The final days take in part of the Flinders and Hawker. Returning home via Quorn, Wilmimgton and a visit to historic Laura . ETA Stockport  late afternoon, where we all enjoy an evening meal and stay overnight.

Day 18: After a hearty breakfast and a farewell to your new friends, we travel to Adelaide for a final goodbye at the Airport.

YOU NEED TO BRING:

  • Comfortable travelling clothes, sturdy shoes, warm jumper, parka, camera, sun block, towel/toiletries, all personal medications, hat, swimsuit, insect repellent, personal water bottle, torch and Wet Ones are a good idea (helps when shower not available)
  • Soft luggage bags (no suitcases) 1 – 2 per person, compact day pack (max 3 pcs).

  • 4wd Nissan Station Wagons, equipped with UHF and HF Radio, stereo, air conditioning, long range fuel and water tanks, portable hot shower.

  • Global Positioning System and Satellite Phone.
