ADELAIDE to CAPE YORK via THE STOCKMAN'S HALL of FAME

An Adventure from Adelaide right to the Tip of Cape York

This trip covers a long way through South Australia, Queensland and Northern Territory along many Outback tracks and visits many destinations including Birdsville, Windorah, Mossman, The Daintree, Cooktown, The Cape, Normanton and a ride on the Gulflander to Glenore will be attempted. The return journey is flexible to allow us to explore as much as possible in the allotted time. The route home is an expedition on its own. Places such as Lawn Hill National Park, Ruby Gap, Arltunga and The Painted Desert are sought after destinations in there own right. This will truly be a time to remember

The Itinerary outlines the major points of the route for your map reference. Rest days and time spent at some locations may be extended where time permits.

Day 1/2: Depart Stockport 6.00AM for Orroroo, Leigh Creek, Lyndburst, Marree, Birdsville and overnight at the famous pub.

Day 3/4: Leave Birdsville early on route to Betoota, Windorah and on to Jundah and a camp on the Thompson River. The next day Longreach and the Hall Of Fame. At Longreach or Cairns anyone who needs to miss the overland leg can join us.

Day 5-6: Depart Longreach about lunchtime on through Muttaburra and Hughenden to the Porcupine Gorge National Park. Overnight Bush Camp.

Day 7-8: Over the Montgomery Range to The Undara Volcanic National Park. So much to see in this beautiful part of Oz. Then on to Marreeba and Mossman.

Day 9-14: Now we move to The Cape, Cooktown, Lakefield N.P, Archer River, Iron Range National Park., the Wenlock River, Jardine River and finally Bamaga and The Cape. Time for R&R before the journey home begins. Overnigt Bush Camps and Caravan Parks. Time for a day trip to Thursday Island for any one or just lazing around.

  Day 15-20: From Bamaga South on the Old Telegraph Line to Weipa and on to Coen, Musgrave and Artemis, across country to Koolatah, Dunbar, Karumba and Normanton. If this is Thursday night as planned, Friday morning gives all who want to, a ride on the Gulflander.

Day 21-22: Normanton, Burketown, Lawnhill National Park, (hopefully an overnight camp here) then on to Camooweal and overnight accommodation.

Days 23/28: Some of the choices travelling home, Urandangi, Lake Nash, Tobermorey, Plenty Highway, Arltunga, Ruby Gap Nature Park, N'dhala Gorge, Alice Springs, The Painted Desert, Flinders Ranges and finally Stockport about 4pm where we enjoy an evening meal together and stay overnight.

 

YOUR TOUR INCLUDES:

  • Pick up ex Adelaide Airport or Gawler Railway Station
  • Dinner, Bed and Breakfast at Stockport Stables before and after the trip.
  • Parking on premises if required.
  • Swag (heavy-duty canvas, mattress/pillow/sheets/blankets/doona}
  • On camping trips, we supply single pole tents, twin share (some singles available)
  • Meals, tea and coffee and refreshments while on the road.
  • Choice of Claret/Reisling with evening meal and a nightcap of Port.
  • Hotel/Motel/Caravan Park/Station accommodation, twin share basis.
  • Desert park pass fees, Obligatory Permits.
  • Map Pack of Specialist Maps for the Journey.

YOU NEED TO BRING:

  • Comfortable travelling clothes, sturdy shoes, warm jumper, parka, camera, sun block, towel/toiletries, all personal medications, hat, swimsuit, insect repellent, personal water bottle, torch and Wet Ones are a good idea (helps when shower not available)
  • Soft luggage bags (no suitcases) 1 – 2 per person, compact day pack (max 3 pcs).

YOUR EXPENSE:

  • Dinner, drinks and breakfast on Hotel/Motel stopovers.
  • Special interest Tours and associated Entrance Fees.
  • Beer:  Tour Leader purchases on route, chilling as needed.
  • Single Occupancy: - if available and pre-arranged.
  • We recommend current Medical/Accident and Travel Insurance.

VEHICLES & EQUIPMENT:

  • 4wd Nissan Station Wagons, equipped with UHF and HF Radio, stereo, air conditioning, long range fuel and water tanks, portable hot shower.
  • Heavy Duty Trailer, gas BBQ,  Engel Frig/Freezers, tools, electric winch/snatch straps, spares/tyres/tubes.
  • Global Positioning System and Satellite Phone.

MEMORABILIA:
