EASTER IN THE FLINDERS RANGES

6 DAY, 5 NIGHTS ITINERARY - $1485 per person

ACCOMMODATION, ALL MEALS & WINES. AND AIRPORT / TRAIN TRANSFERS FROM ADELAIDE INCLUDED IN THE COST

This Weekend adventure to the Flinders Ranges in South Australia’s Northern area is based at the historic Moolooloo Shearers Quarters John Mc Douall Stewart used this station as a start point for his incredible overland journeys to what is now Darwin.

Recently refurbished with new beds and a complete new and modern ablution block they are extremely comfortable.

Day 1: We meet you at Adelaide Airport or the train at Gawler Central. Or you may choose to drive into our country property and leave your car at Stockport over Easter. Accommodation is provided on a twin share basis at Stockport, in our large converted and refurbished Stables. Join us and fellow travellers for lunch, afternoon tea and dinner at the Stables. An afternoon walk around the country area.

An afternoon pre-trip briefing. Familiarization with equipment and routines, issue of trip maps, etc. Drinks and nibbles before dinner at the Stables.

Day 2: An early breakfast, and we leave Stockport about 8 AM and travel north trough the Clare Valley and Hawker. Then through the Central Flinders to Blinman. Maybe a drink or coffee at the Pub and then on through the rugged and picturesque Glass’s Gorge to Moolloolloo Station. Arrival time about 4pm, giving plenty of time to settle in, explore the area while dinner is prepared.

Day 3: Today we explore the property travelling out to Nuccalleena, an old gold mine of the 1800’s, a huge investment for very little return to the English investors. A fairly common story about mining in that era in the Flinders. Lunch in a creek bed somewhere and then back to the quarters for drinks and dinner.

Day 4: After another hearty breakfast (your choice of course), we head out in our 4wd vehicles across some of the old tracks used by the early copper and silver miners in the mid 1860’s. Through empty creek beds and wonderful rock formations. Our main destination today will be Beltana, a superb semi-ghost town, which still retains some inhabitants. Beltana was one of the main repeater stations for the Overland Telegraph Line, and a major station on the Old Ghan Line. It is full of wonderful photo opportunities, the substantial stone railway station, the original Smith of Dunesk Church, the old Schoolhouse and other buildings. Our lunch will be a BBQ in a gorge somewhere. Drinks and Roast Dinner at the Quarters.

Day 5: After packing up in the morning we head home from Moolooloo down to Parachilna Gorge and through other places in the Flinders and home through the interesting towns of Quorn & Wilmington and down through the famous wine regions of the Clare Valley. Arriving at Stockport late afternoon. Drinks and dinner at the Stables with your fellow travellers.

Day 6: After a hearty breakfast, and a farewell to your new friends, we travel to Adelaide for a final goodbye at the Airport.
