BILL’S NEWSLETTER October 2009 Hi, The year for us is nearly over, and what a great year it has been. Only Kangaroo Island to go, which is now completely booked,, and I reckon that will be a bit of a relaxing time after what we have been through!
But first a bit of good news, as many of you know, our stalwart second driver, Adrian, was injured on the Canning Stock Route this year. We had to fly him home from Wiluna as he had severely torn some muscle tissue in his pelvis. He had continued to drive while in severe pain for many days. I have just heard from him, and after two operations where he literally had to be stapled back together, a complete recovery is predicted. He will be with us again next year.
I must also thank my brother, Peter, who flew to Wiluna,a place he had never heard of, to help in Adrian’s absence. He thought we were going home on the bitumen!. Thanks also to Steve Gibbs who came down from the Riverland and did a great job, under very arduous conditions, as we Crossed the Simpson in September. Speaking of the Simpson, you probably remember the dust storms that hit Sydney and Brisbane, well we were at the source on the Oodnadatta Track and the Simpson. Our guests treated as a great Adventure, and something to remember for the rest of their life. So will we!
Apart from Adrian’s injury, the Canning was again a wonderful experience with a great group of travelers. Several aboriginal communities were visited and quite a few art works purchased. It was fully booked with three Nissan Patrols as have all our Adventures this year.
More good news, the water in the South East of South Australia is accumulating in quantities not seen for years. The Water Valley Wetlands are benefiting enormously and the accommodation that we use is now the centre of two enormous Lakes. Water is also flowing into Bool Lagoon for the first time in five years, the birds are returning and will continue to do so as the Outback dries out over summer. Some of this vast quantity of water will find its’ way into the Coorong and may help alleviate the problems caused by the ailing Murray River. Naturally we are going to take advantage of these wonderful circumstances and will have a seven day tour gathering on Sunday 31st of January at Stockport The trip will include a flight over the area and a visit to Bool Lagoon. Who knows when circumstances will allow us to once again share the beauty of these magnificent Wetlands, give me a ring soon, space will be limited. There have been many enquiries for next years Journeys, the Canning Stock Route topping the list as usual. We are one of the few who travel the whole length of the Canning, from the beginning of the droving track south of Halls Creek, to the end at Wiluna. Bookings have started but there are seats still available.
I have scheduled (by demand) a journey over the Len Beadell’s roads, traversing country from South Australia west to Western Australia, and on through the magnificent but little known Rudall River National Park, to Marble Bar and on to the Kimberleys. We also visit the Gibb River Road, Mitchell Plateau and the Bungle Bungles. Discounts of 5% for booking before Christmas and paying before the end of January and for guests who have traveled with me in the past still apply. I should be available most of the time now, so give me a call I look forward to traveling with you soon, All the best, Bill Brinkworth .
